Check the background before turning a PNG into JPG

JPG can be a practical choice for a photo stored as PNG. For a logo, screenshot or small text, keeping PNG may give cleaner edges and preserve transparency.

Download the 320 × 200 transparency test PNG
Transparency test artwork displayed against a checkerboard
Transparent pixels become white in JPG. Use the sample to check the background before converting a logo.

Try it and check the result

  1. Download the test PNG and add it to the converter. Its left half is transparent; its right half contains solid colors.
  2. Convert it to JPG and download the result. The transparent half should now be white, and the output should still be 320 × 200 pixels.
  3. Repeat with your own image. Compare thin lines and text at 100% zoom; keep PNG if the JPG artifacts are distracting.

What changes in the output

  • There is no transparent JPG output. This tool uses a white background rather than offering a background-color picker.
  • JPG is lossy and is written at a fixed 92% quality; there is no quality slider. A smaller file is not guaranteed for every PNG, so use the Image Compressor afterwards if you need a specific size.
  • The tool does not copy embedded EXIF/GPS metadata. Preserve the original for editing or archival use.

If the result looks wrong

A white rectangle around a cutout is expected after exporting JPG. It is not a failed download. Use PNG or WebP instead when the image must sit on a colored or transparent background.

PNG to JPG FAQ

How do I convert PNG to JPG?

Drop your PNG file into the tool above, then download the JPG. Everything runs in your browser - your image is never uploaded to a server.

Is converting PNG to JPG free?

Yes. No signup or watermark is required. Batch size is limited by your device memory, and images above 40 million pixels are rejected.

Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?

JPG is lossy and written at quality 92. Check fine detail and file size; the output can be larger than an HEIC or WebP source.

What is the difference between PNG and JPG?

Flatten a PNG onto a white background and export as a smaller JPG — great for photos and email. Universally supported and compact for photographs.

Does converting PNG to JPG need a plugin or an install?

No. JPG is one of the three formats browsers can encode themselves, so nothing extra is downloaded and conversion is near-instant.

Is transparency kept in the JPG?

No. JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are composited onto white before encoding.

Is EXIF and GPS data kept in the JPG?

No. Conversion goes through raw pixels, so EXIF, GPS coordinates, IPTC and XMP are all dropped. That is usually what you want before sharing a photo - but if you need to keep the format and only remove metadata, use the Metadata Remover instead.
